We are Herman and Mieke van Katwijk and we are managing “CalCas”.
We have been living in Portugal since April 2000 and since then we have been dealing with the purchase and selling of real-estate, restoration and construction of houses and providing advice in any other real-estate matters.

Authorized real-estate agent: In 2006 Herman passed the obligatory examination of professional skill with the Association of real-estate IMOPPI.
The advances of an authorized real-estate agent:
- You are assured of the controlled professional skills; a permit will only be given to persons who are attended lectures within their 6th – 18th year of age (totally 12 years) AND afterwards have passed the obligatory examination of professional skill of the IMOPPI.
Further, one is obliged to keep in touch of the developments in the field of real-estate, which will be tested on regular bases by the IMOPPI.
- In addition to the official license, you also have the advantage of a Dutch real-estate agent, who speaks various foreign languages, who is living in the region itself and for that reason is an expert in managing the ways of bureaucracy within the Portuguese society.
-As a safeguard there is an independent adjustment of complaints. We are obliged to send your complaint to the IMOPPI within 5 days after receiving it.
The IMOPPI will take any necessary actions with regard to your complaint.
- Every authorized real-estate agent is obliged to be assured for risks of business.

Some background information: After the first acquaintance with Portugal by Herman, within the framework of his job, we visited Portugal several times and crossed the country for a further acquaintance.
In the Spring of 1998 we bought a more than 300 years old quinta (wine farm) in Calvos, Vieira do Minho, and restored it completely in 2004.
Mieke Mieke formerly worked for more than 18 years with several notary-offices and a real-estate agent. Herman worked for more than 25 years as manager in the Mental Health Care and for the last years as an interim-manager.
We speak the Portuguese language and are well informed of all the ins and outs to purchase, to sell, to restore and to transfer real-estate in Portugal.
In January 2006 the company has moved to the village Calvos and has changed the name in “CalCas”. We joined the branch-association for real-estate agents (IMOPPI) to offer better security and guarantees to our customers.
For you this means that you can count upon a real-estate agent who speaks Portuguese and several other foreign languages and who also lives permanently in Portugal and therefore can offer you the best of services.
